Downtown Pomona’s Renford Reese, a Political Science Department professor at Cal Poly Pomona, was the 15th recipient of the George P. Hart Award, which recognizes a faculty member who is regarded as role models and leaders.
Reese said receiving the award is the highlight of his career, which includes being the founder and director of Colorful Flags, a human relations program that has served about 130,000 K-12 students throughout California.
He also sits on the advisory boards for the Kellogg Honors College and intercollegiate athletics, has published five books and was named “Teacher of the Year” in his department.
“I’ve had my share of highlights in my career … but this is me being acknowledged by my peers,” he said. “This is the award that is most meaningful to me.”
The award comes with a $1,000 gift. Reese said he would donate it to the university’s cultural centers.
